Andy Grooms - Drums and Percussion
Andy Grooms brings a deep pocket, sharp musical instincts, and decades of stage experience to Salmon in the Current. A drummer since age 11, Andy grew up playing in bands, marching band, jazz band, and percussion ensembles before continuing his music studies at Anderson University. While developing his craft, he studied with Dane Clark, longtime drummer for John Mellencamp, building a foundation rooted in feel, dynamics, and song-first playing.
Andy moved to Nashville to join the indie rock band AutoVaughn alongside Darren Potuck, Stephen Wilson Jr., and Ben Graham. AutoVaughn built a national following through relentless touring, including dates across Europe, and shared stages with acts including Cage the Elephant, giving Andy years of experience in high-energy live rooms across the country and abroad.
Known for his energetic playing and musical restraint, Andy moves easily between power and precision. With Salmon in the Current, he anchors the band’s sound with a mix of driving rhythm, instinctive feel, and the kind of live-music urgency that keeps every show moving forward.
Andy has been an Innovative Percussion artist since 2008.
